SASI Cleaning Project Results
In 2007, a highly successful pilot trial called the Safe and Sustainable Indoor (SASI) Cleaning project was conducted in Melbourne with three City of Yarra Children’s Centres, The Lady Gowrie Child Centre, Swinburne University of Technology and Fresh Green Clean.
The SASI Clean program has demonstrated that we can achieve our goal, to find safer, healthier and more sustainable ways to clean. With the help and commitment of all the Childcare Centres, and the stakeholders we have been able to complete the trials and successfully achieve the following results:
Cut the total number of cleaning products
by 1/3
Replaced hazardous cleaning product with non-toxic and plant-based products
Reduced waste by buying bulk, concentrated and long lasting products
Implemented simple water saving strategies such as using microfibre mops
Scientifically proved that warm soapy water works as well as disinfectants
Successfully implemented safer cleaning methods with effective systems and signage
How did we do it?
